In 1909 the First Presidency (JFS) asked Orson F. Whitney to draft an official statement on the origin of the physical man. It had anti-evolutionary sentiments and it offended some BYU faculty. Three professors, Henry & Joseph Peterson and Ralph Chamberlin, were told to change their teachings on evolution or they'd be dismissed. They left.
