In 1987, as a father-daughter project, Leonard and Susan [Arrington] coauthored the first edition of Mothers of the Prophets. This book included chapters on the lives of those women who gave birth to (and in most cases raised) a son who later became president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The first edition included chapters on thirteen women, from Lucy Mack Smith, mother of the first president of the Church to Sarah Dunkley Benson, mother of the president of the Church at the time the book was written. [From the Preface of the Revised Edition]
