'In this paper, I will first establish the significance of courtship and marriage in shaping a Mormon woman's identity. Next, I will address the unusual juxtaposition of religiosity and romanticism in Latter-day Saint women's stories. Third, I will examine the notion of a Latter-day Saint woman's sacrifice in Young Woman's Journal fiction and the way that these narratives gradually became more complex to accommodate the Church's twentieth-century growth. Finally, in the conclusion I will offer some further reflections on courtship stories' contributions to the overall history of Latter-day Saint women in the twentieth century and beyond.'
