'This paper will explore the rifts that were created from 1971 to 1982 by the debate within the Church over the Equal Rights Amendment. It will chronicle the ERA debate nationally in order to contextualize the debate within the Church. Stereotypes will be identified and analyzed, and a continuum of Women of Faith, ranging from women who were in favor of the amendment to those who were opposed to it, will be highlighted. Through oral histories that were mainly conducted in the late 1970s and letters written to both Church headquarters and Mormons for ERA (MERA) in the early 1980s, women's voices and experiences will be privileged.'
