“This paper will sketch the gradual rise of Unitarianism in this country in the seventeenth, eighteenth, and early nineteenth centuries. It will then examine the theological issues that arose as articulated by Henry Ware Sr. and William Ellery Channing. As we consider these positions, I will include a Latter-day Saint reflection to highlight both the similarities and differences in doctrine. Latter-day Saints may be surprised at the common ground they share with these early Unitarians. The purpose, however, is not to break new historical or theological ground but rather to provide Latter-day Saints with an understanding of one piece of the tapestry within which the Restoration arose.” (taken from author's introduction)
