"Published version would appear to be excerpts from journal although editor does not indicate whether anything has been omitted or changed. There are frequently entire lines of dots (. . .) with no indication as to what they represent. Nothing is said about how many volumes of holographs there are beyond brief mention of a first volume and an account book. Nor is the location or condition of the holographs mentioned. No journals were located for the period 1861-77. Called to Siam Mission. Account of journey to Calcutta via San Francisco, 1852-53. Went to Rangoon after two months in Calcutta, arriving there two months later. Only one Mormon in city. Studied Burmese. Taught English school for native children. Most of the time was without a missionary companion. Visited native villages investigating possibilities of taking gospel to natives. Counselor in Rangoon branch presidency, 1854.
