People of Rimrock : A Study of Values in Five Cultures
-
Cambridge, Mass.
-
Harvard University Press
-
"Field research was carried out in the Rimrock Area of western New Mexico, where the late Clyde Kluckhohn had been doing field work among Navahos since 1936. Nearby were communities of Zunis, Spanish-Americans, Mormons, and Texan homesteaders. The area thus provided five contrasting cultures for comparative study. Pseudonyms have been used for all persons named and for all local place names except Zuni pueblo.
"The reader, it is hoped, will gain from the papers of the volume an appreciation of the role of values in various social institutions and processes, a general view of the five cultures of the Rimrock area, and insights into the variations of socio-cultural phenomena disclosed by comparative analysis. It should be remembered that the papers were prepared between 1955 and 1960." [Preface] -
