Eugene England's daughter shared memories of her father. There were always late night discussions, with grandparents, study groups, Sunday dinner guests, that sometimes became heated, but never resulted in bitter feelings. Family activities were diverse; they participated in peace protests, fed the homeless, and slept in parks while traveling. They were always involved in the humanities, attending plays, ballets, and reading. Their bedtime stories were of MacBeth, Hamlet, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Beowulf, or running the combine on the farm. England loved to fish and taught each of his children and grandchildren. His last year of life was difficult as he fought depression and brain cancer. England's children saw him as a man who was 'larger-than-life' and a man of great faith
