This is a bibliographic survey of published studies of major sacred writ in the United States and its intersections with history of the book studies. He overviews the treatments of the Bible in the United States and alternative versions of the Bible (like the Joseph Smith Translation). He also mentions various studies of the Book of Mormon. He attests that 'it is quite likely that no book originally produced in the United States has had more significance in molding various forms of private and public expressions of faith than the Book of Mormon.' (p. 346) He voices an appeal for history of the book scholars to pay attention to the Book of Mormon and suggests some areas of study that are crying for attention. Other religious groups whose sacred texts he examines include Christian Science, Scientology, Moon's Unification Church, Hare Krishna, etc
