Irene recalls life in Murray as an Armenian minority. Her family joined the Church and moved to Utah in the early 1900s, before she was born. She experienced discrimination throughout her youth, both at school and at church. Although she still suffered from discrimination at the University of Utah, she was finally able to be on the debate team. She later served as president of both the Utah Education Association and the Utah Cattlewomen's Association
