A 'Saints at War' research project at BYU has established a permanent archive to document and preserve the World War II experiences of Mormon veterans and their families. This article offers a sample of stories from this archive. Over a hundred thousand Latter-day Saints served in the armed forces of various nations during the war. Approximately 5,000 of that number died during the conflict. About 700 of those who died were German Latter-day Saints
