The authors point out problems in Pearson's essay published in the March 1996 issue of Sunstone. They argue that the case Pearson makes is 'seriously flawed' and 'unjustly diminish[es] our appreciation of the Book of Mormon.' The authors admit that, in comparison with other scriptures, the Book of Mormon 'neglects the female perspective.' However, they argue that there is a stronger female presence in the Book of Mormon than first appears. They contend that the language in the Book of Mormon is more gender-inclusive than Pearson submits
