The image of Mormonism in the media resembles 'model minority depictions of Asian-Americans.' Most stories on Mormons or Mormonism focus on Mormon success, welfare system, ideal citizenship, unquestioning obedience, etc. However, although Mormons are depicted as quintessentially American, the media is always careful to note that 'a vast gulf simultaneously separates them from the majority's culture.' The authors urge Mormons to 'use their minority experiences to cultivate an America less hostile for all minorities.'
