James Lisonbee (1839-1877) was an early settler in Monroe, having been called there to head the United Order in 1871 from his home in Springville. The United Order was not successful and Lisonbee was replaced as leader and called on a mission to the South in 1876. He served primarily in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. He helped gather together many of the converts who traveled to the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado where they established a Mormon community (Manassa). Having completed his mission, Lisonbee had returned to Utah and was probably enroute to join his friends in Colorado when he died
