Although the Book of Mormon played a role in Brigham Young deciding to join the Church, 'it was never a focus of his published sermons.' Neither Brigham Young, nor Joseph Smith, nor many other early members cited or referred to Book of Mormon scripture in their preaching addresses. Even so, he did rely on the Book of Mormon to inform some of his teachings. Some of those Book of Mormon-inspired teachings included (1) America needing to be established before the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, (2) people once enlightened by the Spirit of God can lose that light, (3) Native Americans are of the house of Israel, etc. He also drew upon the Book of Mormon to teach about the law of opposition, the fall of man not shameful, and submitting our will to the will of God. He also was personally involved with publishing editions of the Book of Mormon in England in 1841 and Nauvoo in 1845.
