The authors perceive that at an academic level, the evangelicals are losing the debate with the Mormons. Several Mormon organizations and scholars are reviewed such as the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS) and Hugh Nibley. Topics such as the Dead Sea Scrolls are examined because of the Mormon interest. The authors warn that 'it is inconsistent for evangelicals to insist that heterodox groups like the LDS have no legitimate biblical scholars, and then utilize the very scholars whose existence they deny.' In the author's opinions, the evangelical responses to LDS apologetics have been poor and inadequate.
