Allen Taylor captained a large company of Mormons across the plains in 1849. He was well-fitted to do this, having assisted in caring for the families left behind by soldiers in the Mormon Battalion. He also assisted in helping the poor forced out of Nauvoo in 1846. In 1848, he was an officer in Brigham Young's company en route to the valley. His life is briefly overviewed until his death in 1891.
