Information was presented on Newel K. Whitney's life in Ohio, with emphasis on his business dealings and his involvement with the Church. Whitney was financially successful in his business dealings and owned a store, an ashery, and a small residence in Kirtland before he joined the Church. After he was called to be the bishop in Kirtland, the Church there relied heavily on him for financial resources. Although the members did not hold all property in common, they formed the United Fund, which drew chiefly upon Whitney's property.
