The Church was officially recognized by the Mongolian government in the early 1990s. Service missionary couples were sent into the country with permission to proselyte. They taught classes and provided training in education, business, and law. Through this opportunity, the Church was able to build a good relationship with the government and the people of Mongolia, and to create the Mongolian Mission a few years later. Former missionaries and other LDS scholars interested in Asia assisted in establishing the relationship, building ties, and supporting Church growth. Today, there are almost 4,000 members of the Church in Mongolia and 10% of them serve missions. The Book of Mormon has been translated into Mongolian and other scriptures are in the process of being translated. Members are optimistic about the future of the Church in Mongolia and hope for a temple to be built there in the next ten years.
