Bringhurst shares his experiences and thoughts concerning his dissertational work on blacks and their place within the Church. His disagreement with Church policy to deny blacks the priesthood lead to his disassociation from Church activity. He chose his topic believing that he would bring an objective perspective to the research and interpretation of his findings. Bringhurst feels that the Church needs to go farther in eliminating 'racist folklore' still prevelant in the Church despite the 1978 revelation on the priesthood.
