Woodworth provides an historical introduction to a 16 May 1844 Josiah Quincy letter recently found in papers in the Massachusetts Historical Society, Boston, Massachusetts. Written to his wife detailing his travels on the western frontier, Quincy was not as complimentary as his later reminiscent writings about Joseph Smith and the Mormons at Nauvoo.
