Enders states that an organization's ability to restore a historic site is only as good as its research. He then describes the process and challenges to restoring the buildings of Historic Kirtland when documentation was limited. Artifacts were used when possible to furnish and fill the buildings, such as the Johnson and Whitney homes, but in others, such as the ashery, furnishings and tools had to be hand crafted. Problems dealing with facilitating traffic flow for visitors and sanitation and health facilities are also discussed.
