The 1871 diary of Sir Hector Louis Langevin (1826-1906) was donated in 1999 to the University of British Columbia library. Written mostly in French, Langevin describes his tour of the Canadian and American West. In Utah, he visited with Brigham Young, saw the Tabernacle, and attended the Salt Lake Theater. He also visited Camp Douglas. These entries attracted some interest among Utah Mormons when the diary was offered at auction in 1971 in Montreal. The library has digitized the diary for the Web. Langevin is the great-grandfather of the author of this article.
