When mineral veins were discovered in the mountains east of the Wasatch Range in the 1870s, the community of Park City was established. Like most mining towns, it experienced ups and downs until the 1950s when mining was stopped. The introduction of ski resorts saved the community from becoming a ghost town, however, and the city continues to thrive. (Only tangentially related to LDS history.)
