Though Church leaders opposed mining and its attendant 'temptations,' the industry nevertheless blossomed in the mineral-rich areas of Utah and eventually became one of the state's major industries. Part of mining's legacy was the creation of a diverse population in the state. Large numbers of people were drawn to Utah by the prospect of wealth and work. This influx brought Mormon isolation to an end and fulfilled, in part, Isaiah's prophecy that all nations would flow unto 'the mountain of the Lord's house.'
