Several Mormon Vietnam War veterans were interviewed to get a sense of the impact which their religion had on them during the war. The majority felt their military service fulfilled the performance of a religious duty. They generally felt that the Church and its leaders were very supportive of their participation in the war. Others felt their service was akin to serving a mission and were active in proselytizing. Most of the veterans perceived that their experience in Vietnam was different in a positive sense than that of other non-Mormon American servicemen because of their religious participation
