The counsel and comments of Mormon Church leaders during the Vietnam War ran contrary to the general, popular sentiments voiced at the time. Church leaders gave loyal support to members serving in the military, advising them that their participation in that conflict was both a civic and religious duty. Although they condemned war per se, they saw some blessings that might bear fruit in the war. They did not encourage conscientious objection
