In 2001, Taylor was a visiting scholar in Russia on a Fulbright grant. She taught a course on the Cold War at Moscow State University. She reflects on the stereotypes of Russians she had growing up during the Cold War. Utah, heavily dependent on the defense industry during the 1950s and 1960s, nurtured stereotypical views of the Russians. The Mormon Church began sending missionaries to Russia in 1989. These missionaries returned to Utah with a more accurate image of the Russian people. After her Russian experience, Taylor offers her views of the Russian people
