This thesis shows the historical contributions of John C. Fremont to the settlement of the Great Salt Lake Valley. Fremont made three expeditions (1843-1845) into Utah's borders and studied the geographic features associated with the Great Salt Lake. As a scientist, he gave a detailed and accurate description of Utah before the arrival of modern civilization. This helped to confirm the Mormon leaders decision to settle this area.
