"This study traces the activities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Korea from its beginnings in the 1950s to the end of 1985, covering approximately thirty-five years. Although, compared with Japan and China, Korea was very late in accepting Mormonism, it has been one of the most successful and productive mission fields of the Church. The seeds of Mormonism were planted in Korea only a third of a century ago, when, amidst the agonies and thunders of fratricidal conflict, a few LDS servicemen laid the foundation. The first full-time mission was created in July 1962. Since then, the Church has grown and expanded by leaps and bounds. With the gradual establishment of Korean leadership, stakes and wards have been organized, and the Church has become solidly rooted in the soil of Korea. The American missionaries have been an essential factor of this amazing success. With the building of the House of the Lord, the long-awaited dream of 50,000 Korean Saints literally has been realized." [Author's abstract]
