"The funeral of Richard W. Young has been described as one of the largest and most impressive ever held in the state of Utah. His sudden and unexpected demises hocked his fellow citizens, and evoked expressions of love, loyalty and affection that unmistakably testified to his great stature in the state and reputation In the nation. Yet the high regard that he comma nded at his death had not come easily. A Salt lake paper which called his death a "national tragedyl had thirty-four years earlier called the assignment of Second Lieutenant Richard W. Young, the "Spy," to Fort Douglas, Utah the greatest military blunder since the order of the "Light Brigade to charge at Balaklava. " This contrasting status depicts most eloquently some of the problems of Utah Hist ory and the life of General Young." [Author]
