"A review of available literature indicated a need for a study of the recording techniques of choral organizations which have contributed to the preservation of choral music. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the St. Olaf Choir, the Westminster Choir, Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians, and the Choral Organizations of Robert Shaw, are representative of choral organizations that have been innovators in the field of choral recording. Data for this study was gathered by reviewing existing literature as well as personal communication with conductors and recording engineers. The information subsequently gathered indicated that, though each of these organizations is unique in its approach to interpretation of choral music, there exists a parallel between selected recording techniques and technological advances in the recording industry. In this paper, practical information about recording machines, recording halls, microphones, and singing formations was presented in an effort to enable a choral educator effectively to record a choral ensemble.
