"This dissertation is a literary analysis of writings commonly attributed to Joseph Smith, the Mormon prophet. Some emphasis is placed upon his letters, sermons, and newspaper articles. However, the primary focus is upon The Book of Mormon, The Inspired Version of the Bible, The Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price. The thesis is that Joseph Smith belongs to a line of literary minded men called prophet-poets. The works which are associated with his name, in addition to being prophetic and inspirational, are also structural and lyrical." [Author's abstract]
