"After a little over 60 years of official existence we may say that the LDS Church in Brazil has left its adolescence and reached a stage of maturity. This can be noticed not only in the numbers of stakes and wards but also in the quality and strength of the local leadership. This study is an exploratory ethnography and it provides the results of interviews and surveys conducted with 190 Brazilian Latter-day Saint leaders in 14 major Brazilian cities. It reveals their insights on the factors they perceived as significant in the phenomenal growth of the Church in the past 20 years. They also listed their perceptions on the major challenges, rewards, and concerns they encountered in their experience as church leaders. One of the most remarkable aspects found in the LDS Church in Brazil is the crucial role today's youth play in ecclesiastical leadership. In addition to providing a few insights about the demographic composition of a nationwide sample of current leaders, we also assessed their perceptions on issues like the implementation of Church programs, and their opinions on the necessary qualities and avoidable flaws of a good ecclesiastical leader. In addition, an analysis is offered about the geographical expansion of the LDS Church in Brazil and the current prospects for the future." [Author's abstract]
