"I have undertaken to write about the short experience of the Mormon people in San Bernardino. Their settlement was not a success and it has been fascinating to attempt to find the reasons for the failure. I consider myself a very strong believer of the Mormon faith but for the purpose of this paper I have tried hard to shackle the normal bias and partiality that is part of each individual. in this studied glance at a six and one-half year period, my chief challenge has been to portray this picture as objectively and as unbiased as is possible."
