This thesis covers various sectional controversies in Idaho prior to its admission as a State. The massive Oregon Territory had been divided into areas including Oregon and Washington. Idaho was formed as a product of geographically induced divisions and mining interests.
Later, Northern Idahoan interests were at variance with Southern ones. Anti-mormonism was a significant aspect of Idahoan politics in the years leading up to statehood.
