"After the consideration of Mormonism as a rural religion, the next problem of this study is to analyze it, Mormonism, in order to find its typical elements. This analysis of Mormonism is made in order to select the fundamental characteristics of one rural religious group. It is hoped that some of the characteristics thus found to be typical of this one specific group of rural people, may, by further study, be shown to have much in common with the fundamental characteristics of other rural religious groups. Thru a great number of such comparisons it may eventually be possible to determine some of the characteristics of the rural religious culture. Throughout the study the great effect which the environment--both the physical environment, and the environing ideologies and psychology--has had upon this religion will be given consideration... Another subject to receive consideration is the influence of urbanization upon this rural religion." [Author]
