"This is a study of the life of Elbert D. Thomas who worked toward the rescue of European Jews from the Nazi killing machine and the establishment of an independent Jewish state in Palestine. The study also traces the coming of the "Final Solution to the Jewish Problem" in Germany and the response of the American public and Jewish community to the implementation of the Final Solution to exterminate the Jews of Europe. Elbert Thomas represents the best part of America's response to the Holocaust in that he acted upon his beliefs in justice by co-authoring the formal rescue resolution presented by the Senate. He was also instrumental in persuading the United States to reassert her role as a world leader by taking positive steps to establish the state of Israel. Thomas' example of integrity serves as an excellent reminder that we should stand up for moral and just values." [Author's abstract]
