Alexander initially studied Wilford Woodruff's journals in order to try to answer his questions and perception about religious experiences. That led to an interest in trying to understand Wilford Woodruff, a brilliant, extraordinary, and very complex man. He was much more than a farmer, missionary, or visionary spiritual leader. These were all facets of his character, but they were all entwined with other elements of great complexity. He was inquisitive, experienced both success and failure in his personal life, and was a revolutionary leader in the Church. Alexander's efforts to understand Woodruff also assisted him in trying to understand current tensions in the Church, wherein the demand for conformity has wreaked havoc on families and friendships. We may be in the midst of a revolution in the Church.
