Having witnessed a Mormon mother giving honey water to her young infant and subsequently learning that several Mormon mothers had not been advised about the dangers of such a feeding practice, he urges physicians to especially advise Mormon patients about the inherent danger of feeding honey to infants. He also proposes that confirmed cases of infant botulism should be reexamined to determine if religious background is a risk factor for this disease.
