Both have a centralized bureaucratic structure in common. They both have a security apparatus in place to control potential internal dissent (Church Security, Strengthening Church Members Committee, etc.). He points out that the governing style (autocratic) of leaders of the church and the GDR 'bear an uncanny resemblance to each other.'
