For a brief period in 1861 and 1862, Joseph Morris led a faction challenging the authority of Brigham Young in the Mormon Church. Theological persuasion failing, Young resorted to civil and finally military force to dislodge the Morriste defectors from their stronghold on the Weber River. Resistance led to Morris' death and the scattering of his followers.
