Campus survey -
OER is driven by faculty. The library is there to help, but faculty decision-making is key. “Faculty champions do a lot on this campus, even though they may not be called that.” When faculty talk to faculty there is a respect and camaraderie that helps promote and encourage use of OER. It is peer pressure but in the best way. Additionally, the “Provost is supportive of the use of OER and affordable.” This is a measure of support for OER use that faculty need as they look to advance in their careers.
One-shot workshops are given, often “where librarians like me, and maybe a liaison librarian and [the library dean], go to a faculty meeting to present OER to the department.” Other support for faculty include a LibGuide and getting materials into Canvas, particularly a course faculty can take to learn about OER and how to incorporate it into their courses.
An effective measure of the campus environment relating to OER is a bi-annual survey. Doing it regularly provides good constant data on the status and what may be needed to improve the program.
VIVA provides access to eBooks purchased for courses as well as the EBSCO Faculty Select which includes OER and other free materials.
