The blurb of Leslie Norris's first volume claims particular merit for his nature poems. Vivid and fresh as they are, they do not seem to me unusually memorable or original. Indeed there are signs that Mr. Norris has contracted a mild fever caught from staying too long in Milk Wood. He is a much more satisfying poet when his imagination is nourished by human relationships (508). The Ballad of Billy Rose is a fine poem, full of rough compassion for the kind of tragedy that happens every week and is unheeded by the world (508).
