Lived in Utah, September 1868 to September 1869. Several chapters on Mormonism. Orson Pratt described as the only man of learning in the Church, and Brigham Young not at all a talented man. His power largely a result of immense potency. (Author traveled in the American West for seven years, and this book is the result. Several chapters deal with Mormons, including extensive comments on the Mountain Meadows Massacre, the death of Brigham Young, plural marriage, and woman suffrage. Attempts to discredit the Church and its leaders.)
