After graduating from the Pratt Institute, Leah D. Widtsoe was appointed head of the Department of Domestic Science at BYU in 1897. In 1900, she moved with her husband to Logan when he was made director of the Experiment Station at Utah Agricultural College. She accompanied her husband on his forays to meet with farmers. On these tours, she taught home management skills to the farmer's wives. She tirelessly promoted legislation on a national level to advance research in homemaking. She was an accomplished author and lecturer on the subject of family education
