This article explores "data on the history of women at the University of Utah from 1850-1915 in an effort to put into perspective the meaning behind the inclusion of women at the beginning of the institution." It is asserted that women were allowed in the University on a "pragmatic economic basis," that they didn't have equal access to university resources, and the social expectations for educated women were to become wives and mothers, not career women.
