-
To honor composer and conductor Leroy Anderson. Especially helpful for those looking to find and purchase Anderson’s music.
-
Comprehensive works list with compositions from 1935-1973, including pieces that were lost and those published posthumously. The discography covers recordings make from 1958-1962 on 33 1/3 rpm discs and those digitally remastered on CDs after his death. It does not include 45 rpm and 78 rpm discs from 1945-1962 or identical recordings on other international labels (“U.K., Germany, New Zealand, and elsewhere”). The site is in English, but parts of the main body of information (found in the Biography section) have been translated into French, Spanish, German, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Italian, Czech, and Dutch. The CDs included on the web store page are those considered “more important.”
-
The homepage features a link to a page dedicated to the Leroy Anderson Centenary celebration in 2008 as well as links to other pages about the composer and his wife Eleanor. The Biography tab includes an in-depth biography; an essay about his work as a conductor; and lists of his works, awards and honors, bibliographic sources, and selected recordings. Works are organized alphabetically within ensemble categories (orchestral compositions, orchestral arrangements, musical theater, vocal, organ, and other). Honors are listed chronologically. The bibliography is divided by format or language (books, periodicals, Swedish, German), but there is no further organization. The discography is in chronological order. The Music tab provides an alphabetical listing of audio recordings for many of his compositions. It also includes lyrics to some of his songs, access to a PDF list of his published works and publisher information (organized alphabetically by instrumentation, includes all arrangements), and links to websites for publishers and “friends of Leroy Anderson.” Other tabs include a collection of positive reviews, a list of the currently available DVD and CDs and where to find them, photo gallery, online guest book, and a newsletter.
-
Multiple works lists, one of which includes publisher information to help with accessing copies or certain arrangements of Anderson’s music.
-
Bibliography is not in alphabetical order. List of published music can be downloaded but is not embedded in the website, as is implied. Some features require flash. The Web Store tab is deceptive; rather than a source to directly buy music or recordings, it is a selective list of recordings and a DVD that can be found on “Amazon and other sources” or Netflix, respectively.
