To make available for performance, study, and recording nearly forty collections of string quartet parts held in the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Duke University, which collection of quartets has a special emphasis on composers whose works are rarely found in modern editions.

Includes all forty collections of string quartet parts from the Classical Period (which they define as being circa 1770 to 1840) held in the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Duke University. Most of these collections contain complete parts though some do not. Composers represented are primarily French and German.

The collection is presented online in the form of a table that can be organized by composer, title, publisher, or date. Clicking on an individual entry will show complete details of the music’s composer, publication date and city, physical specifications, call number, and the parts included. Individual entries also show a picture of the cover page, provide a link to PDF reproductions of the parts, and links to WorldCat entries.
