-
A thematic catalog of the musical works of Reinhard Schwarz-Schilling.
-
Attempts to be comprehensive in covering all the works of the composer. Only selected performances and recordings have been given mention in this catalog. Incipits have either been taken directly from the manuscripts or written by the composer himself for the purposes of this catalog.
-
Preceding the catalog itself are a foreword, preface, a time line of Schwarz-Schilling’s life, a list of awards he has received, a short essay explaining why he composes tonal works, an index of publishers, and an index of abbreviations.
The catalog, which comprises the main body, organizes entries by numbers assigned to them specifically for this catalog. These numbers appear to follow the chronological order in which each work was written. Entries include incipits and information regarding the names of movements, premiere and other performances, instrumentation, recordings, performance times, and lyricists.
After the main catalog come several items: (1) an index of works organized by genre, (2) an index of gramophone records with no apparent order, (3) a primary and secondary bibliography, both organized chronologically by year, (4) a list of music dictionaries organized by year, (5) introductions written by the composer about certain works, (6) Schwarz-Schilling‘s “artistic creed,” (7) an article written by Schwarz-Schilling in the yearbook “Staatstheater Dresden - Gestaltung und Gestalten,” (8) an index of photos organized by page number, followed by the photographs themselves, (9) a transcription of a radio broadcast of “Das musikalische Selbstportrait mit Reinhard Schwarz-Schilling,” (10) an article written by Schwarz-Schilling about the premiere of Bruckner‘s IV Symphony in the Hannover Opera House, (11) a reflection on Schwarz-Schilling‘s experiences as a guest lecturer at the College of Music at Seoul National University in Korea, (12) a memorial address for Heinrich Kaminski, (13) an article called “Dem Andenken Horst Günther Schnells,” (13) a collection of Schwarz-Schilling‘s artwork, (14) an article written about the composer in “Musica sacra“ called “Reinhard Schwarz-Schilling: Motetten für sechstimmingen gemischten Chor; Vier Psalmmotetten; Drei geistliche Lieder; Offertorium,” (14) an article written about the composer called “Reinhard Schwarz-Schilling: Über die Schwelle,“ (15) a transcription of a radio broadcast announcing the composer‘s passing and an obituary, (16) an index of authors of texts for Schwarz-Schilling‘s works organized alphabetically by last name, and (17) an alphabetical index of Schwarz-Schilling‘s works. -
This catalog contains no information regarding first editions, autographs, bibliographic references to other resources, or references to other thematic catalogs.
